Say It Ain’t So Woxy

Published by David under Muse News

woxy.gif

I just went to woxy.com, an independent online radio station based in Cincinnatti, and am disappointed to learn that they are calling it quits. Woxy is one of the finest Independent and Alternative stations out there, and it is truely a shame to see it go. They are closing for financial reasons, after recently trying to save the station by making it so you had to have a membership to have good sound quality. I’m hoping that an investor comes along soon, preferably before September 15, which is the day the broadcast will be silenced. Woxy used to be an FM station, and almost shut down completely in 2004 after selling their FM license, but last minute two investors helped Woxy stay online. We can only cross our fingers, and hope that the same miracle happens again.

Ryan from Holopaw can use your spare change!

Published by David under Muse News

This past Sunday night, Ryan Gensemer from Holopaw was randomly and badly beaten up in Chicago. Sounds like he will be okay, but he had his jaw broken in three places, got a concussion, and sustained some kidney damage.

Search in your pockets, and behind your sofa cushions for any spare change you can muster up to help Ryan pay for his huge medical expenses. No matter if it’s three bucks or three hundred, it will make a difference.
Here is what was released by the band:

Hello All,

Unfortunate news to report. Our dear friend and bandmate Ryan “Beachwolf” Gensemer was savagely beaten in Chicago on Sunday night. Random violence at its worst. He had his jaw broken in three places, got a concussion, and sustained some kidney damage.

Unfortunately, as is the case with many musicians, he has no health care. None of us have the financial resources to help him out to any real extent, either.

So, in light of this terrible event, we are soliciting donations to help him pay off what would appear to be an astronomical medical bill. Anything would be greatly welcomed.

We are not in the business of begging, but this circumstance calls for any effort we can think of.

If you would like to help, send him wishes, or learn more about the situation, please send an email to helpbeachwolf@gmail.com.

Thank you and best of best to all.

New OK Go Music Video is a Must See

Published by David under Muse News

vid_hereitgoesagain.gif

OK Go’s new homemade music video for the song “Here we go again” is in my personal opinion, absolute genius. If you remember, last year an OK Go video for the song “A Million Ways” appeared on Youtube that was never intended for public release. The band was doing choreographed moves in probably the most low-budget music video ever made, and it became a worldwide hit. If you liked that video, than boy oh boy are you in for a treat.

been having problems embedding videos, see HERE in meantime.

Continued:Two coolest fans at Lollapalooza? The results are in!

Published by David under Muse News

It was a hard decision, but after much deliberation, the judges…judge, has made up his mind. I thought that for sure there would be no competition once I saw the woman signing every word James Mercer of The Shins sang, but oh how I was so very wrong.

Merely minutes after closing the book on coolest person at Lollapalooza, because really, who could beat a woman signing at a music festival, I looked over to my left, and what did I see? I saw a man sitting on a big blanket. Now, I know what you are thinking, “That beats a woman signing at a music festival?” but yes, it certainly does. And I’ll tell you why.

First of all, you have to understand that every single person who was relatively close to the stage was standing during The Shins performance. But not this guy. He had a HUGE blanket given how crowded the area was, and he knew just how to use it. He went up close towards the stage and plopped his blanket down and just sat there for the whole show. Or did he just sit there? No he didn’t. He was working on Math! He had a textbook out, and a ti-83 calculator, and was doing work while the Shins performed.

In his defense, I can understand why he would want to come to the festival, regardless of if he had work to do or not. It was a beautiful day, in a beautiful park, with great music. Who would want to miss that, even if they had calculus work to do? I just thought it was humorous, how everyone was standing, watching The Shins, and this guy was sitting doing work. Why did he need to be so close up? It’s not like he could see, and he was definitely taking up enough real estate that could have been used by three, maybe four people. And that my friends, is what makes him the winner of the coolest fan at Lollapalooza contest. With that kind of devotion, he should probably be given some kind of education award also, but I’m not the one who hands those out.

Two coolest fans at Lollapalooza? The results are in!

Published by David under Muse News

Hey everybody. So I got everything uploaded again and am pretty much back in business. Sorry bout that. Within the next week or two there are still going to be some rad changes to the site.

img_0510.JPG

I wonder what would have happened if somebody started an Amish festival in Chicago during Lollapalooza, named like Lallopalooza. It would have been funny to see how many people went to the wrong festival because they didn’t know how to spell Lollapalooza correctly. It’s like “man I can’t wait to see the Chili Peppers,” and then they get inside the park and are like, “Where are the Peppers? And why is Matisyahu playing a cowbell on top of an ox?…” Every time I used to try to go to the Lollapalooza site, I would end up at one of those useless sites that some asshole fortune teller set up because he knew I was going to spell Lollapalooza wrong, and if somebody was going to profit off my stupidity, darnit it was going to be him.

Second Coolest Person at Lollapalooza (black shirt)

Deaf people rocking out to the Shins? I guess so. From what I’ve heard (I promise no pun was intended there) people who are at a loss of hearing can hear vibrations of music. Makes sense to me. And maybe a select few might decide to spend $73 per day (or $150 for all 3 days), to hear those vibrations and be taken out of their very quiet world. So I can totally appreciate that. But will having a person near the stage, sign every word that The Shins sing really enchance the deaf persons experience? Lollapalooza seemed to be a pretty “liberal” festival where they cared a lot about the environment, and making sure no one was excluded (maybe besides college students who don’t have 150 bucks to spend on a music festival, but that’s another story), so it must have made perfect sense to them. But I just don’t understand what the function of a signer at a music festival is. Let alone how many bands do you know that have that thought provoking, or even quality song lyrics? Ohh the confusion. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing what they were doing at all. I am just genuinely interested in why a deaf person would need somebody telling them what the lyrics of a song are, when they can’t hear the person singing, or most of the music. But yeah, the signer definitey gets an award for second coolest fan at Lollapalooza. I’m sure she was very grateful that it wasn’t a Heavy Metal Festival that she had to sign.

Stay tuned for the coolest Lollapalooza fan. Oh yeah and by the way, I thought that it was safe to go with Amish Festival because Amish people don’t have computers, so they can’t get mad at me. But if you broke the rules and are Amish and have the internet, I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to make fun of you when I said that there was an Amish man playing a cowbell on an ox. I know that you guys are way cooler than that. But even if that is all that you guys have at your festivals, which i wouldn’t know (or if you even have festivals), than that is totally cool too. And for any Hasidic Jews that are offended when I said the person probably thought that the man on the ox was Matisyahu, you have to admit you both kinda look similar… you could see where the confusion comes from. Though I know you are not Amish… But if you were, that would be cool too.

Zach Braff on Indie 103.1. RIGHT NOW!

Published by David under Muse News

If any of you happen to come to the site within the next hour, listen to Indie 103.1 out of Los Angeles. Zach Braff is the DJ! Right now it’s August 3, (2006). He started at 7 PST, and I’m pretty sure he is only going through the hour. If my program is working correcty, I should be recording it right now, so maybe I’ll be able to post part of it, if they don’t put it on the Indie 103.1 website.

Why does this have to be so difficult? I mean come on, seriously.

Published by David under Muse News

Okay guys, first off, I’m sorry. I got the site up and running for about a week, and then things started to spiral down from there. This all happened because I tried updating the site’s software, and before I knew it, I didn’t have an accessible site anymore. So I’m still trying to get everything back up, and work on the design, once again, and then it should be smooth sailing from there. Hopefully.

In the meantime, I am trying to restore all the mp3’s and it may still be several days before new posts go up.
